A portrait of the complicated marriage between Long, a disabled Taiwanese man, and Azhe, his Vietnamese bride. Their union results from Long’s wish to obey his overbearing mother, and Azhe’s self-sacrificing efforts to help her impoverished family. The Good Daughter is an unflinching look at one woman’s epic struggle to balance her obligation to support her relatives in Vietnam with her duties as a mother and wife to her family in Taiwan.
